Usable PVC Business Card

September 8th, 2009 alone_cuzzo No comments

These are pretty dope and they’re as usable as they are fresh looking.  My only concern would be the cost to print them, er well to get them made because they look like they’re made out of rubber or something like that.

Nonetheless pretty cool.

PVC business card made for self promo activities by BLACKVER. It can also be used as a perfect example of different advantages of PVC material and technology. This one of a kind unique business card can also double as a mobile phone holder, anti stress toy, tray for hot cups, badge, key ring, trinket, etc. and because of its striped raised edge along the border and back surface it has the ability to be placed on any vertical plane surfaces (mirror, metal board, refrigerator, glass) even without magnet. Time, water and temperature proof, durable. Fascinating. By Alexey Kondratiev For Alexey Kondratiev [From PVC Business Card]

Wing Dings Please

My first job in advertising was a train wreck mashed up with a slave ship or something like that.  I remember being required to lay out magazine ads, code php tools, be an actionscript assassin, amongst other things.

But at the time the style of street art fashion photography mashed-up with vector artwork started to come into vogue.  In our office we all laughed about it and called it a passing fad, but now a few years later I’m seeing that it definitely stuck.

I think the thing that is most attractive about it to people is the juxtaposition of two idealized states.  The made up girl is just as unreal as the artwork that surrounds her.

Escapism at it’s best I guess, but I might give the style a try.

Old Yard Sale Art

September 7th, 2009 alone_cuzzo No comments

I can remember the old yard sales that my mother would talk about having. Both of my parents were pack rats, and I remember a lot of old stuff from the 60s and 70s downstairs in the basement or in the attic. Mostly I can remember the smell of slight mold and dust over the pages of the record jackets and other things that I would find. Other than the smell and textures of the pages, I can remember thinking that the things came from an alien world. I was too young to really have a concept of time and different genres, but I was aware enough to sense that the combination of colors that I saw in these pieces were of a different visual language.

I’ve always loved how design and colors can transport the viewer through time. I couldn’t help remembering those old feelings when browsing around at wemadethis.

We nipped over to the latest Ephemera Society Fair on Sunday, and picked up a couple of tasty bits of print.First up is this Raleigh bikes brochure – no idea what year this might be – with a page detailing their bikes’ features picked out in cyan, magenta and yellow. As Dave in the studio might say, how fresh is that?Seems like all their bikes at the time had names that began with an ‘R’. You could choose from the Record (for the man who MUST lead the rest); the Rapide (for quality looks and value); the Rapier (as light and as sharp as a fencing blade); or the Royale (a whirlwind flyer with regal grace)! Loving the Raleigh logo – how bonkers is that G? Check out the full set of images on this Flickr set.More bike related ephemera following soon. And if you want to grab some for yourself, the next fair is Sunday 4 October. [From Raleigh ]

I love the use of colors and line in artist ISE’s work.  The use of patterns overlaying her work gives her characters a realistic but simultaneously ethereal feeling.  Check out her blog here.

figure drawing

August 15th, 2009 alone_cuzzo No comments

So in an effort to be more creative and to not let my talents waste away, I’ve joined a figure drawing class. I’ve been at it for about a month and a half and I have to say that some nights I really hate going, as I am often tired, but even on the nights I get frustrated- doesn’t happen too often- I’m glad that I go.

During these two weeks I hope to get more time in with my brush and ink.  It’s a really tough medium that will take a lot of practice to master.  Maybe I’ll shoot for an hour a day or something like that.
